Obama’s Latest Book

I recently browsed through a copy of President Obama’s children’s book, “Of Thee I Sing: A Letter to My Daughters.” It’s very nicely done, with especially effective illustrations. One quote from the section on Sitting Bull is worth taking to heart. It says that “For peace, it is not necessary for eagles to be crows.” I don’t know what Barack Obama had in mind when he selected that quote (if he, himself, actually did), but to me it suggests that for the country to operate well, it’s not necessary to subjugate the truly accomplished among us (the eagles). It is not necessary to bring down the rich to make things better for the poor. The poor we have always with us. I wish our president were more in touch with the wisdom of Jesus, Sitting Bull, and the men and women on main street.
